One table to rule them all…

The periodic table, the basis of which were laid down by Mendeleev in 1869, is one of the great achievements of chemistry. In a single table, chemical properties of the elements can be inscribed, inferred or predicted. Today, the web is full of versions of the periodic table, here is a compilation of them...

BEST PERIODIC TABLES
Either as a professional scientist or a a student, a good periodic table of the elements always comes in handy… Here is my personnal compilation

One of the most popular and complete of the online periodic tables is WebElements by Mark Winter :

Want to keep the number one chemistry tool on your PC : here is a great (and free) periodic table software (only for Windows tough) :

If you want a more interactive table, try :

Want info about the electronic configuration of your favourite element? This one should not disappoint you :

HISTORY OF THE PERIODIC TABLES
For the History of Science buffs among you

A truly amazing site about the history of the elements by Sequium Science http://homepage.mac.com/dtrapp/Elements/elements.html

A great site about the evolution of the periodic table itself, from it’s very beginning to the new, spiral or 3D approach

VARIATIONS ON THE PERIODIC TABLE
Also of interest, here are a few spins on the periodic table :

The biochemical periodic table, by Steve Toeniskoetter, Jennifer Dommer and Tony Dodge at the University of Minnesota
http://umbbd.msi.umn.edu/periodic/

The periodic table of videos : do not be fooled, it is a real chemistry class about each element, very well done :
http://www.periodicvideos.com/

The periodic table for children at chem4kids.com

The periodic table of X-ray properties :

And the one for NMR spectroscopists :

A periodic table for earth sciences; messy but exhaustive

GORGEOUS PERIODIC TABLES
Periodic tables is, after all not only an organization of the elements, but also a visual display of the material world’s ingredients. They do not have to be plain, arial, excel-type things but can become real works of art…

My favorite online display of the periodic table is the one of the Royal Society of Chemistry version (flash and HTML versions available)
http://www.rsc.org/chemsoc/visualelements/pages/periodic_table.html

Worth a look to is the Los Alamos National Laboratory Chemistry Division (wich is made with High School students in mind)

You definitely have to see also the periodic table displays by The Red Green & Blue Company.. I want one…
http://www.element-collection.com/index.html
and they got a REAL Periodic Table

THE FUNNY ONES
Chemists can be fun too… no, really, they can…

An auditive periodic table : the eternal classic, the Elements Song, by Tom Lehrer, this time with a flash animation

By fans of comic books and chemistry, the periodic table of elements int the comics universe

John Selegue and James Holler, University of Kentucky

The elephant periodic table… hey, why not?
